Market accessibility
Portugal's buying process is considered one of the more accessible in Europe for international buyers. The notarial system is clear, title searches are generally reliable, and the process can often be completed within a structured timeline. Italy involves more complexity: cadastral records, renovation permits, and bureaucratic steps vary significantly by region and property type.
Renovation-heavy purchases in Italy, particularly in historic areas or rural properties, require more intensive legal and technical preparation. A purchase in Portugal is rarely straightforward, but it is rarely as complex as a restored farmhouse in Tuscany or a village property in Sicily.
